Week 1 of Spaces of Joy was led by Daneka Etchells on Introduction to Disability Equality Training and Practical Tools to Implement DET in Theatre
Daneka is writer, actor and access, equality and inclusion consultant. As an actor they’ve worked with companies such as National Theatre, HOME, Northern Stage, Papatango, Theatre by the Lake, Live Theatre, Octagon Theatre Bolton, Pilot Theatre and CAST. As a writer, they’ve worked and completed development schemes with BBC Writersroom, Box of Tricks, New Writing North, Royal Exchange, Paines Plough, DaDa Fest and Emmerson and Ward. Their E&I practise is rooted in dismantling historically oppressive structures and legacy, working from lived experience and researched theory.
Daneka loves collaborating creatively, and also discussing long-lasting E&I practise with individuals, companies and organisations at any point in their journey who believe in the inclusive future of our industry.
